Texas Drift Co.

When to go

Twelve months of fishing.

Texas weather swings hard, but something is always biting. Here’s how the year usually goes.

Winter

Dec – Feb

Trout get stocked in the Guadalupe tailwater, and big speckled trout move up onto the mud flats on warm afternoons. Late in the season the sand bass start pushing up the rivers. On the coast, fish the warmest part of the day.

Spring

Mar – May

Prime time. Bass and bluegill move onto their beds, creeks run clear and full, and redfish start tailing on the high spring tides. Bring a popper and a spoon fly wherever you go.

Summer

Jun – Aug

Fish early and late. Wet-wade the Hill Country rivers for Guadalupe bass, throw at schooling sand bass at dawn, and watch for tarpon rolling off the jetties. Stay off the water when there's lightning.

Fall

Sep – Nov

Bull reds school up in the surf and passes, the flounder run out through the drains, and cooler water gets the bass back on topwater. A lot of us think fall is the best season of the year.
